Kano travelers cries out

Some travelers  at the Mallam Aminu Kano international airport has lamented their distaste over the barbarous blustering by the security operatives at the Mallam Aminu Kano  domestic departure gate. Some passengers on Sunday morning at about 6:30 at the domestic departure gate told Press  headlines  correspondent that they were harassed, strained, bullied and intimidated by the security operatives at the Aminu Kano international airport domestic departure gate. An eyewitness also told journalists that the security operatives denied some passengers access with their luggage. Press headlines however learnt that the security operatives at the departure gate has been harassing and intimidating passengers for quite a long time now.

Metele: Surviving soldiers send SOS to Buhari

Some soldiers who survived the attack by Boko Haram on the military formation in Metele have sent an SOS to President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to probe the quality of weapons procured by the military authorities and save them from further avoidable deaths. In a video sent to journalists in Maiduguri, the soldiers accused the military authorities of providing them with obsolete weapons, which they said are grossly inadequate to effectively confront the insurgents in the ongoing counter insurgency campaign in the Northeast. In the amateur video footage, the soldiers also levelled allegations against the military authorities accusing them of negligence which resulted into the death of scores of their colleagues in a series of attacks coordinated by the Albarnawi faction of the Boko Haram at Metele in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno. Breaking: 15 girls kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped 15 girls overnight in a village near Toumour, southeastern Niger, the local mayor said on Saturday. Boukar Mani Orthe, the mayor of the town in Niger’s Diffa region near the border with Nigeria, said about 50 unidentified armed men seized the girls in a village about nine kilometres from the town centre. On Thursday suspected Boko Haram fighters killed eight people working at French drilling company Foraco’s water well site in Toumour. Boko Haram has been waging an insurrection since 2009 aimed at establishing an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria. It has launched repeated attacks into neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon. The violence has killed thousands of civilians and forced millions to flee their homes in the large Lake Chad basin region. President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed at a meeting with a delegation of Benue All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Senator George Akume. “We know about herders. Magu seeks UK Agency to extradite Diezani

The EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu has sought the assistance of UK’s National Crime Agency to recover looted funds and also extradite back to Nigeria Politically Exposed Persons, such as Diezani Alison-Madueke. Diezani, who was oil minister between 2011-2015,  has been on the EFCC radar for several years, since the Jonathan administration was ousted in the election of 2015. In 2017, a Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the final forfeiture of N7.6 billion  loot recovered by the Commission from Diezani. The order of final forfeiture to the Federal Government was granted by Justice Abdulazeez Anka. “Having waited for three years, the Nigerian government believes that it is time to initiate the extradition process,” Magu told the NCA officials on Thursday. NANS threatens to occupy custom

1 hour ago  1    116    0 The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to shut down Customs Command in Ikeja, Lagos if food stuffs meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are not released. “NANS will be considering occupying the customs office on Monday, Nov. 26, to demand justice for our Diaspora Zone,’’ NANS National Public Relations Officer, Mr Bestman Okereafor, said in a statement on Saturday. Some former members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have asked for forgiveness from Nigerians and their communities. The former insurgents asked for forgiveness while taking an oath of allegiance to the Federal Government at a rehabilitation camp in Gombe State. They were part of the insurgents who willingly surrendered to security forces, to be re-integrated into the society. After 11 months of de-radicalization with Operation Safe Corridor of the Nigerian Army, the repentant terrorists are pleading to be taken back as normal citizens. During their stay in the camp, they undertook vocational training as well as other programmes aimed at transforming their lives. President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched the Minister of Defence, retired Brig-Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali, to Chad for an emergency meeting with the Chadian President, Idriss Deby, on the deterioration of security at the Nigeria – Chad border. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dan-Ali had on Thursday briefed President Buhari on security development across the country. He also briefed him about the recent killings of some Nigerian soldiers by the Islamic West Africa Province, a breakaway Boko Haram sect, operating along Nigeria – Chad border. AFP reported that no fewer than 44 soldiers were killed during the attacks, which occurred at Metele, a remote village bordering Nigeria and Chad. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reliably gathered that the urgent meeting was necessitated by the latest security developments across the battle fields in the North East region of the country. Buhari departs to Paris for peace forum

President Muhammadu Buhari will  depart Abuja on Friday for Paris, France, to participate in the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum which opens on Sunday and ends on Tuesday. Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday. The Peace Forum is organised by the French Government and a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The Forum is based on the “simple idea that international cooperation is key to tackling global challenges and ensuring durable peace.” Adesina disclosed that the Nigerian President would join the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres and other world leaders in discussing contributions towards global peace while underscoring the imperative of collective action. Umar Lawal Bujawa made the call in a session with journalists. Bujawa noted that his members has already started calling his Mobil phones demanding for the release of the funds. Minimum wage: Atiku to pay his workers 33,000

Abubakar, has directed the implementation of N33,000 minimum wage to all employees in his companies. The directive was issued to heads of business units of companies owned by the former vice president and was to take immediate effect. Muhammad El-Yakub, the Managing Director Gotel Communications, a company promoted by the former vice president in his home state in Adamawa, said the implementation of the payment would commence after a meeting with union officials. He said the directive affected Gotel Communications and other companies owned by the former vice president. He said, “Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Wazirin Adamawa,has ordered the implementation of N33,000 new minimum wage to workers in all of the businesses owned by him. “The directive is with immediate effect and will be implemented across all the businesses owned by the former vice president.”

Drug abuse: Adamawa mental home raises fresh concern

Dr Marcus Vandi, Head of Psychiatric Unit, Yola Specialist Hospital, Adamawa, has raised alarm over the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths in the state. Vandi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Yola, expressed concern over the increasing rate of drug abuse among different age groups. According to him, the hospital admits over 100 cases with mental and other related health issues. ”The use of psychoactive drugs especially among youths, is becoming an issue of concern. ”On daily basis, the hospital receives between three to five mental cases mostly related to drug abuse.” He said that almost all the patients were males between ages 13 and 55. Vandi advised parents to inculcate good moral upbringing in their children, to enable them to stay away from drugs. He said that the hospital lacked modern equipment and adequate personnel and urged the state and Federal Government to support the hospital in these areas.

Broadband: NCC raises alarm over vandalism of infrastructure

Commission (NCC) has warned against vandalism of telecommunication infrastructure, stressing that the act is compromising Federal Government’s efforts toward achieving 30 per cent broadband penetration in 2018. Miss Helen Obi, the commission’s Head of Zonal Operations in Niger, said this at a one-day sensitisation programme on “Protection of Telecommunication Infrastructure” on Thursday. According to her, telecom infrastructure serve all citizens and should be owned collectively and everyone should work against its vandalism so that it can serve the purpose for which it is meant. The Nigerian Union of Traders Association Ghana (NUTAG), has commended President Mohammadu Buhari-led government, ECOWAS, Ghanaian authority and others for their intervention in the reopening of Nigerians shops in Ghana. The President of NUTAG, Mr Chukwuemeka Nnaji, said this in a telephone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from Kumasi Ghana on Thursday. NAN reports that hundreds of shops run by Nigerians were reportedly shut following an impasse with the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA). The closure of the shops was allegedly in compliance with authorities mulling some legislation compelling foreigners to have one million dollars (R14.3 million) as minimum foreign investment capital to do business in Ghana.
