Gov Bello appoints 16 new aides

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has sacked his Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Arome Adoji and approved the appointment of 16 new aides. A statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday by Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Ayoade, confirmed the removal of Adoji but did not give reasons for the action. Ayoade said that Dr Paul Ugbede Ebije had been appointed by the governor to replace the sacked commissioner. According to the statement, Mr Aliyu Salami has also been appointed as the new chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service. Salami, is replacing the former chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Oseni, who is now the Kogi Central senatorial candidate of the of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 election. Chief Gbenga Asagun and the state’s former Head of Service, Dr Moses Atakpa, were also appointed to serve as chairmen of Elders Advisory Council for Kogi West and East senatorial districts respectively among others, the statement said. Buhari fixes special FEC meeting Friday

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Friday preside over a `Special’ Federal Executive Council meeting to deliberate solely on 2019 draft budget proposal. Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, revealed this when he briefed State House correspondents at the end of the Council’s meeting. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the FEC meeting was presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday. Adesina stated that the Friday’s Special FEC meeting would endorse and approve the 2019 draft budget for onward submission to the National Assembly for its approval. FG withdraws no work no pay on ASUU

The Federal Government has withdrawn the recent threat to activate the ‘no work no pay policy’ against striking university teachers. This was disclosed by the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in an exclusive chat with Vanguard Media. Ogunyemi also said that the negotiation meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government would continue on Monday, stressing that what the union was doing was to rescue the education sector from imminent collapse and to ensure that the children of the poor get access to quality and affordable education. Katsina state Police command arrest notorious robbery syndicates, drug pushers, others

On 28/11/2018 at about 15:20hrs, the Katsina State police Command succeeded in busting a notorious syndicate of thieves, that specializes in breaking bank customers’ vehicles and steal their money.  Nemesis caught up with the suspects when they trailed one Umar A. Maigoro, aged 32yrs, of Kofar Kaura Layout, Katsina, who withdrew some money from a commercial bank along IBB way, Katsina. The complainant being a victim of similar incident became wary and suspicious when he discovered two motorcyclists were on his trail.   He then alerted policemen on duty at Federal Medical Center where the suspects were waylaid and arrested while in the act of breaking and stealing from the vehicle.  The following members of the syndicate were arrested: Shu’aibu Isah, alias ‘BABA’, ‘m’, aged 32yrs of Hayin Danmani Kaduna state. Metele: Surviving soldiers send SOS to Buhari

Some soldiers who survived the attack by Boko Haram on the military formation in Metele have sent an SOS to President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to probe the quality of weapons procured by the military authorities and save them from further avoidable deaths. In a video sent to journalists in Maiduguri, the soldiers accused the military authorities of providing them with obsolete weapons, which they said are grossly inadequate to effectively confront the insurgents in the ongoing counter insurgency campaign in the Northeast. Breaking: 15 girls kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped 15 girls overnight in a village near Toumour, southeastern Niger, the local mayor said on Saturday. Boukar Mani Orthe, the mayor of the town in Niger’s Diffa region near the border with Nigeria, said about 50 unidentified armed men seized the girls in a village about nine kilometres from the town centre. On Thursday suspected Boko Haram fighters killed eight people working at French drilling company Foraco’s water well site in Toumour. Boko Haram has been waging an insurrection since 2009 aimed at establishing an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria. It has launched repeated attacks into neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Magu seeks UK Agency to extradite Diezani

The EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu has sought the assistance of UK’s National Crime Agency to recover looted funds and also extradite back to Nigeria Politically Exposed Persons, such as Diezani Alison-Madueke. Diezani, who was oil minister between 2011-2015,  has been on the EFCC radar for several years, since the Jonathan administration was ousted in the election of 2015. In 2017, a Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the final forfeiture of N7.6 billion  loot recovered by the Commission from Diezani. The order of final forfeiture to the Federal Government was granted by Justice Abdulazeez Anka. “Having waited for three years, the Nigerian government believes that it is time to initiate the extradition process,” Magu told the NCA officials on Thursday. President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched the Minister of Defence, retired Brig-Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali, to Chad for an emergency meeting with the Chadian President, Idriss Deby, on the deterioration of security at the Nigeria – Chad border. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dan-Ali had on Thursday briefed President Buhari on security development across the country. He also briefed him about the recent killings of some Nigerian soldiers by the Islamic West Africa Province, a breakaway Boko Haram sect, operating along Nigeria – Chad border. Buhari departs to Paris for peace forum

President Muhammadu Buhari will  depart Abuja on Friday for Paris, France, to participate in the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum which opens on Sunday and ends on Tuesday. Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday. The Peace Forum is organised by the French Government and a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The Forum is based on the “simple idea that international cooperation is key to tackling global challenges and ensuring durable peace.” Adesina disclosed that the Nigerian President would join the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres and other world leaders in discussing contributions towards global peace while underscoring the imperative of collective action.
