Army foiled attempt by Boko Haram to attack IDP

The Nigerian army said its men foiled an attempt by Boko Haram terrorists to attack the Dalori IDP camp and Kofa village in Maiduguri on Wednesday night. The terrorists were repelled by troops of 251 Task Force Battalion, according to a statement by the army in a Facebook post. “The terrorists gained access through a bush path behind the village in four vehicles and some motorcycles. They ransacked the market in front of IDP camp. “On sighting own troops that were mobilised to the area, they set some houses and market ablaze and fled along Maiduguri-Bama Road. However one civilian was found dead. “Own troops are presently assisting the villagers who ran into the bush back to their homes while the Borno Fire Service have contained the inferno”

Body of General Alkali to get benefiting burial

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the body of the missing Army General, Retired Major General Idris Alkali has been found. The retired Army general had been declared missing since September 4 when he was travelling to his home through Plateau state. The remains of the retired officer were discovered in Guchwet in Shen of Jos South LGA of Plateau State. The leader of the operation search and rescue, Brigadier General Umar Mohammed, said a parade and befitting burial would be held for the retired former Chief of Administration in the Nigerian Army . Retired Major General Idris Alkali had been declared missing since September 3, 2018, on his way from Abuja to Bauchi en route Jos.

NLC rejects 22,500 mobilises for strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the N22,500 proposed by the state governors as the New National Minimum Wage for workers in the country. Mr Ayuba Wabba, NLC president, said this while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) had issued a communique after its meeting claiming that state governors can only pay N22, 500, as the new national minimum wage. “We wish to reiterate our position adopted at our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Oct. 23 that any figure below N30, 000 will not be accepted by us. “We call on our members to continue to mobilise in preparation for the commencement of an indefinite strike on Nov. 6, if by then necessary steps are not taken to adopt the recommendation of the Tripartite Committee,” Wabba said. NHIS: ES sent on administrative leave

President Muhammadu Buhari has intervened in the on-going crisis in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) over the suspension of the Executive Secretary Prof. Usman Yusuf by the Governing Council of the Scheme. The ES who had refused to go on the suspension and had forced his way into the office building a day after he was suspended, has been directed by President Buhari to proceed on administrative leave. The ES who had been enmeshed in series of controversy included an earlier suspension by the Minister of Health Isaac Adewole, had been quoted many times saying that only President Muhammadu Buhari could suspend him or sack him. Buhari meets Tinubu, Oshomole at Aso rock

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met behind closed door with national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tinubu, who arrived at the State House at about 3.56 p.m, was seen moving into the president’s office. The President’s meeting with the APC leader and Oshiomhole  came less than 24 hours after Buhari hosted aggrieved APC aspirants  to a dinner at the State House. Those at the dinner included the governorship, National and State Assembly aspirants who failed to secure the party’s tickets in the forthcoming 2019 general elections, while Oshiohmole was conspicuously absent. Breaking: Army finds body of General Alkali

The Nigerian Army has recovered the body of the missing Gen. Idris Alkali. The body was found in an abandoned well in Guchwet, Jos South LG, Brig. Gen. Umar Mohammed said. The retired military officer was declared missing in September, after leaving Abuja for Bauchi. He did not reach his destination. Early in October, based on intelligence, soldiers drained a pond in Dura, in Jos LG, where they found the general’s car and four other vehicles. Governors forum agrees on 22,500 as minimum wage

400 shi'ites arrested, police put states on red alert

Update 21st Safar,1440 31st October, 2018 The Nigerian Police Force said its men have arrested 400 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, otherwise known as Shi’ites, following a second day of violence in Abuja. The police said they had put on red alert formations in the states, with substantial Shiite population, as the Inspector General of Police(IGP) ordered a clampdown on the rioters. Jimoh Moshood, deputy commissioner and police spokesman said the IGP condemned the unprovoked attack on Police personnel and the setting ablaze of Police vehicle by the rioters today. The IGP, he said has ordered the investigation and prosecution of all the 400 suspects arrested. The suspects are likely to be charged with disturbance of public peace, law and order in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and setting ablaze of Police vehicle.
